Nats re-sign Hudson

The Washington Nationals have signed RHP Daniel Hudson to a two year, $11 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Hudson can earn an additional $1 million in bonuses based around games finished. The Nationals acquired Hudson from the Toronto Blue Jays on July 31 at the trade deadline as they looked to fix their bad bullpen. The one-two punch of Hudson and Sean Doolittle delivered down the stretch as the Nats won their first world series with Hudson on the mound to close it out.

Hudson was Washington's most reliable reliever after being acquired from Toronto. He posted a 1.44 ERA and a 3-0 record in 24 appearances for the Nats. He had 6 saves over 25 innings pitched for Washington. Across all of 2019, Hudson was 9-3 with a 2.47 ERA between the Nats and the Blue Jays. He had 8 saves over 73 innings pitched in 69 games in 2019. He also struck out 71 batters. Hudson has a career 49-35 record with a 3.83 ERA in 692 2/3 innings pitched in his 10 year career. He started his career as a starting pitcher, but moved to the bullpen full time in 2014.

The Nats have had a busy 2020, signing Starlin Castro and Asdrubal Cabrera to solidify the infield, and Will Harris along with Hudson to lock down the bullpen. The Nationals are also linked to top free agent 3B Josh Donaldson as well. Washington should still be competitive in 2020, especially with the back end of the bullpen looking scary good, as it contains Harris, Hudson, and Sean Doolittle.
