The Colorado Rockies and SS Trevor Story have avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two year, $27.5 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. This contract buys out Story's remaining two years of arbitration eligibility. He'll hit free agency when the contract expires at the end of the 2021 season. Story's deal is pending a physical. The two sides were $750,000 apart when they submitted figures for 2020, but they continued to talk after the deadline to submit figures.

Story hit .294 in 2019, hitting 35 homers and posting 85 RBI. Story was named to the all star game in 2018 and 2019. He also won his second straight silver slugger award at the end of the 2019 season. Story is the first shortstop in major league history to hit at least 20 homers in his first 4 major league seasons. In his 4 seasons, Story is a career .276 hitter with 123 homers and 347 RBI. Story has also been an excellent defensive shortstop, saving 15 runs more than the average shortstop last season, and was an NL Gold Glove finalist in 2019.
