The Minnesota Twins have signed 3B Josh Donaldson to a 4 year, $92 million deal, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Donaldson will earn $84 million in the first 4 years of the deal. There is a team option worth $16 million with an $8 million buyout, guaranteeing Donaldson $92 million. There are performance bonuses in Donaldson's contract that could max the contract at $104 million. The Twins, Washington Nationals, and Atlanta Braves were the 3 favorites to land Donaldson, although the Twins were reportedly pessimistic about landing Donaldson just a few weeks ago.

Donaldson was extended the qualifying offer by the Atlanta Braves, which he declined, meaning he is subject to draft pick compensation. The Twins will forefit their 3rd round pick as a result of signing Donaldson, and the pick that goes to Atlanta should fall in compensation round B. After injuries plagued his last few seasons, Donaldson bet on himself with a one year deal in Atlanta, which paid off in spades. Donaldson hit .259 with 37 homers and 94 RBI in 155 games played. Donaldson is a 3 time all star, and won the 2015 AL MVP when he was a member of the Toronto Blue Jays, hitting 41 homers and 123 RBI in Toronto's ALCS run.

Donaldson, who possess upside in both the hitting and fielding department, will join a Twins lineup that lead the league in homers last season, slugging a record 307 homers in 2019. That number only figures to grow with Donaldson's arrival, despite the departures of CJ Cron and Jonathan Schoop. Donaldson is a career .273 hitter with 219 homers and 645 RBI in his 9 year career. The Twins lineup is projected to include sluggers like Donaldson, Nelson Cruz, Mitch Garver, Miguel Sano, and Max Kepler, with swiss army knife Marwin Gonzalez available off the bench, and gold glove candidate Byron Buxton in center field. The Twins seem poised to win the AL central again.
