The Houston Astros have hired James Click to be the new GM, according to the team. Click spent the last 3 years as Vice President of baseball operations in Tampa Bay and spent the last 14 years in the Rays organization. Click will be introduced as GM on Tuesday morning at Minute Maid park. Click was promoted after Chaim Bloom left to run the Boston Red Sox. Click is a Yale Graduate.

Rays owner Stu Sternberg said that “The departure of another talented, senior Rays executive is difficult, that difficulty is compounded by the timing of the departure, only days from the opening of Spring Training. A large number of former Rays staffers now populate senior team positions across the league. Most recently, two of the past three World Series teams, against whom we compete directly, have reached beyond their organizations and into our ranks to fill their top baseball operations positions.”

The Astros had been looking for a GM since they fired both manager AJ Hinch and GM Jeff Luhnow as a result of the fallout from the sign stealing punishments handed down by commissioner Rob Manfred. The Astros have already filled the managerial position, hiring former Washington Nationals manager Dusty Baker to replace Hinch. Astros spring training begins next week in sunny Florida when pitchers and catchers report.
