The Milwaukee Brewers and Brock Holt have agreed to a one year, $3.25 million deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. There is a club option for the 2021 season worth $5 million that has a $750,000 buyout. Holt will also get an additional $250,000 if he gets to 400, 425, and 450 plate appearances in 2020. Holt spent his last 7 seasons with the Boston Red Sox, serving in a utility role, playing every position except pitcher and catcher for the Red Sox. That will likely be his role in Milwaukee as well, giving manager Craig Counsell valuable versatility all over the field.

In 2019, Holt hit .297 with 3 homers and 31 RBI in 87 games played. Holt can get on base at a solid rate, posting a .771 OPS last season. Holt is a career .271 hitter with 23 homers and 206 RBI in 639 career games over 8 major league seasons. 7 of his seasons came with the Red Sox and one with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2012. He was traded in the winter of 2012 to the Red Sox along with RHP Joel Hanrahan. Holt was named to the all star game in 2015 when he hit .280 with two homers and 45 RBI.

The Brewers have had quite a busy offseason, as GM David Stearns has retooled his lineup. Stearns has brought in IF Eric Sogard, 1B Justin Smoak, IF Jedd Gyorko, and OF Avisail Garcia in free agency. He brought in C Omar Narvaez and IF Luis Urias via trade. He has also brought in some pitching help this offseason, signing RHP's Brett Anderson and Eric Lauer, and signing Josh Lindblom from Korea.
