The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded OF Joc Pederson to the Los Angeles Angels, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The Angels are sending IF Luis Rengifo to the Dodgers in return. According to Passan, Dodgers OF prospect Andy Pages is also heading to the Angels, but his involvement is pending medical review. Pederson became expendable after the Dodgers acquired OF Mookie Betts in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins. The good news for Pederson is that he won't have to relocate, as Angel Stadium is 31 miles south on Interstate 5 in Anaheim, CA.

Pederson had a resurgent 2019 with the Dodgers, hitting .249 with 36 homers and 74 RBI in 149 games played. For his career, Pederson is a .233 hitter with 123 homers and 287 RBI in 705 games played in 6 major league seasons, all with the Dodgers. Pederson will likely play right field with the Angels, starting alongside Justin Upton in left and Mike Trout in center field. Brian Goodwin and top prospect Jo Adell should also get playing time this season, with Adell likely starting the season at Triple A Salt Lake to accommodate Pederson, but could wind up in the majors by the end of the season.

Rengifo had a fine rookie season for the Angels in 2019, hitting .238 with 7 homers and 33 RBI while making some fine defensive plays at second base. Rengifo played 108 games last season for the Angels. Rengifo is under Dodgers control until 2025, giving some term to the Dodgers. Rengifo became expendable when the Angels signed 3B Anthony Rendon to a massive 7 year deal in December. Rendon will start at 3rd base, while Tommy LaStella and David Fletcher will likely platoon at second base. Rengifo joins a crowded Dodgers infield that includes Justin Turner, Corey Seager, Max Muncy, Matt Beaty, Enrique Hernandez, and top prospect Gavin Lux.
