The San Francisco Giants have signed IF Wilmer Flores to a two year deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. MLB network's Jon Heyman reports that the deal is for at least $6 million over the two years. Heyman also reports that there is an option for a 3rd season. This is the first multi year contract that president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi has made since joining the Giants front office in November 2018.

Flores had a very efficient 2019 with the Arizona Diamondbacks, hitting .317 with 9 homers and 37 RBI. Flores is a career .268 hitter with 77 homers and 290 RBI in his 7 major league seasons. Flores has played for the D-Backs and New York Mets in his career, with 2019 being his only season in Arizona. The D-Backs declined his 2020 option in October. Flores did the most of his damage last season against lefty pitchers, hitting .337 against lefties with a .982 OPS in 109 plate appearances last season.

Flores is a versailte infielder, playing first and second base for the D-Backs last year. Additionally, he came up the minors as a shortstop and also played some 3rd base in his 6 seasons with the Mets. Flores will likely assume a utility role with the Giants, as they have quite a crowded infield heading into spring training. Flores, Evan Longoria, Donovan Solano, Mauricio Dubon, and Yolmer Sanchez are all expected to compete for playing time this spring and into the regular season. The first full squad workout for the Giants is February 17 at Giants camp in Scottsdale, AZ.
