The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed OF Jarrod Dyson to a one year, $2 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Dyson's deal is a major league contract. Dyson will likely become the Pirates starting CF this season after they traded away OF Starling Marte to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for some prospects. Ironically, Dyson spent the 2019 season with the Diamodbacks.

Dyson had a decent 2019 with Arizona, hitting .230 with 7 homers and 27 RBI in 130 games played. He had 65 runs scored and stole 30 bases last season, so Dyson has the speed necessary to cover center field for the Pirates. He had a .313 OBP and a .320 slugging percentage last season. Combined, Dyson's OPS was .633 last season. OPS combines OBP and slugging percentage into one statistic. In his career, Dyson is a .247 hitter with 21 homers and 170 RBI in 858 games played over 10 seasons. Dyson has spent his 10 year career with the Kansas City Royals for 7 years, the Seattle Mariners for one year, and the Diamondbacks for two. He has a career .338 slugging percentage and .319 OBP, equating to a .657 OPS.

Dyson is very speedy, stealing 250 bases in his career. He is also a strong defender, with 97 defensive runs saved(DRS) in his career. Dyson will play center field in Pittsburgh alongside Brian Reynolds in left field and Gregory Polanco in right field. Dyson will join the Pirates at their spring training facilities in Bradenton, FL. Position players report to Pirates camp on February 16.
