The Chicago White Sox have signed LHP Aaron Bummer to a 5 year, $16 million extension, according to the team. There are two club options for the 2025 and 2026 seasons. Bummer, who isn't arbitration eligible yet, has received the largest extension for a non closer relief pitcher who hasn't hit arbitration. The options for Bummer's contract have $1.25 million buyouts, and are worth $7.25 million in 2025 and $7.5 million in 2026. Bummer's yearly salary goes up each year, from $1 million to $2 million to $2.5 million to $3.75 million to $5.5 million in 2024, when the option years kick in.

Bummer had a solid 2019, going 0-0 with a 2.13 ERA in 58 relief appearances for the White Sox. He threw 67 2/3 innings last season and struck out 60 batters. In Bummer's career, he has a 1-4 record with a 3.12 ERA in 125 games with one career save. He has thrown 121 1/3 innings and struck out 112 batters in his 3 major league seasons, all with the White Sox. Bummer had been in talks about an extension with the White Sox since January.

The White Sox have had quite a busy winter, fortifying positions all over the diamond by bringing in Yasmani Grandal, Nomar Mazara, and Dallas Keuchel, and extending Jose Abreu and Bummer. The White Sox also announced that they have restructured IF Leury Garcia's contract to one year and $3.5 million with a club option for the 2021 season.
