The Chicago White Sox have signed 3B Yoan Moncada to a 5 year, $70 million extension, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. There is a team option for a 6th year. Moncada will make $65 million over the 5 years, with a $25 million option for the 6th year with a $5 million buyout, guaranteeing Moncada $70 million. Moncada could max out the extension at 6 years and $85 million. The extension will buy out all of Moncada's arbitration years, plus two free agency years.

Moncada broke out in 2019, hitting .315 with 25 homers and 79 RBI with 10 stolen bases over 132 games played. In his career, Moncada has a .265 average with 50 homers and 163 RBI across 4 seasons, 3 of them full. He made his debut in 2016 with the Boston Red Sox, going 4-19 in 8 games played. He was then sent to Chicago that offseason along with Michael Kopech in exchange for Chris Sale.

Moncada is the latest White Sox star to sign an extension as GM Rick Hahn fortifies his team. The White Sox signed SS Tim Anderson to an extension in 2017, top prospect Eloy Jimenez in 2018, and 1B Jose Abreu, LHP Aaron Bummer, top prospect Luis Robert, and now Moncada this winter.
