MLB has suspended Cleveland Indians RHP Emmanuel Clase 80 games for a positive PED test, according to an MLB announcement. Clase tested positive for Boldenone, which is on MLB's list of banned substances. Due to the start of the 2020 season being in doubt, it's unclear when Clase's suspension will begin, but it will start when the season does. In the event that there is no season, Clase's suspension will be honored and he would play immediately in 2021.

The Indians released a statement on the suspension, saying that "We were disappointed to learn of today's suspension of Emmanuel Clase for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, we fully support Major League Baseball's policy and its efforts to eliminate performance-enhancing drugs from our game. We have been in contact with Emmanuel, and we will welcome him back after the discipline has been served."

Before he got suspended, Clase was expected to miss some time anyway, as he was shut down for 8-12 weeks at the end of February after suffering an upper back strain. Clase was acquired along with OF Delino DeShields Jr from the Texas Rangers in December in a deal that sent Corey Kluber to Texas. Clase had a 2-3 record with a 2.31 ERA with one save in 21 appearances for the Rangers last season, his major league debut year.
