In a game people thought would have high tensions, high tensions were had. Joe Kelly started a benches clearing incident, 5 different Dodgers had RBI's, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Houston Astros 5-2 in their first matchup since the 2017 World Series. After Kelly struck out Carlos Correa to end the 6th inning, the two exchanged words, and the benches cleared.

The scoring started in the second inning, when Correa launched a solo homer to left field off the signs above the crawford boxes to make it 1-0 Houston, In the 4th inning, Correa hit an RBI single to center field to make it 2-0. In the 5th, Mookie Betts got the Dodgers on the board by drawing a bases loaded walk. AJ Pollock then scored on a fielders choice and throwing error to tie the game at two. Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger followed that up with RBI singles, and Chris Taylor drew a bases loaded walk to make it 5-2 Dodgers, which held.

Kelly was on to pitch the bottom of the 6th for the Dodgers, and had fallen behind on Alex Bregman, with the count 3-0 thanks to his fastball repeatedly missing the strike zone. On the 3-0 pitch, Kelly lost it and the fastball wound up being thrown over Bregman's head for ball 4. Bregman took his base without incident, but Kelly proceed to yawn. With two on and two outs in the 6th, with Correa batting, Kelly threw a breaking ball over Correa's head on the first pitch, which went to the backstop. After Kelly struck out Correa to end the inning, Kelly stuck his tongue out at Correa, and the benches cleared.

Kelly denied the rumors that there was intent behind it postgame, saying that "My accuracy isn't the best." However, Astros manager Dusty Baker wasn't convinced, saying that "You don't throw at a guy's head, that's playing dirty baseball." After he struck out Correa, Kelly also shouted "Nice swing, b---h."

Brusdar Graterol got the win for the Dodgers, pitching a clean 5th inning, striking out two hitters. Starter Walker Buehler went 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on 3 hits and one walk, striking out 3 hitters. Kenley Jansen pitched the 9th for the Dodgers, picking up the save. Adam Kolarek, Blake Treinen, and Caleb Ferguson also pitched for the Dodgers in addition to Buehler, Graterol, Kelly, and Jansen.

Dustin May starts the final game of the series for the Dodgers, while Cristian Javier starts for Houston.
