Mookie Betts got his first hit in his first regular season game in a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform, but he certainly wasn't the star of the show. Dustin May had a spot start, Kike Hernandez drove in 5 runs, and the Dodgers sped past the San Francisco Giants with an 8-1 win on opening night in Los Angeles.

It was the Giants who got on the board first, however. In the 3rd inning, Pablo Sandoval hit a sacrifice fly to left field, which scored Tyler Heineman and made it 1-0 Giants. In the 4th, the Dodgers tied it at one with a RBI single from Hernandez. It stayed that way until the 7th, when the Dodgers started to pull away. Mookie Betts beat the throw home to make it 2-1, Hernadez hit a two run single to right, then scored on a failed fielders choice, and Max Muncy drew a bases loaded walk to make it 6-1 Dodgers. They added two more in the 8th when Hernandez hit his first homer of the season down the left field line to make it 8-1.

In a spot start after Clayton Kershaw was sent to the IL, May threw 4 1/3 innings, giving up one run on 7 hits and 4 strikeouts. Adam Kolarek got the win for the Dodgers, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Caleb Ferguson, Pedro Baez, and Brusdar Graterol also pitched for the Dodgers.

Giants starter Johnny Cueto threw 4 innings, giving up one run on 5 hits and 3 strikeouts. Tyler Rogers took the loss for the Giants, getting just two outs, and giving up 4 runs on 3 hits. Drew Smyly, Rico Garcia, Dany Jimenez, and Conner Menez also pitched for the Giants.

Game two of the series is set to start at 9:40 PM Eastern Time, with Ross Stripling getting the start for the Dodgers, replacing David Price in the rotation, who opted out of playing this season. Giants manager Gabe Kapler has yet to announce a starter for the game.
