With the opening weekend of the regular season concluding, it feels good to be on the San Diego Padres. Trent Grisham hit his first homer in a San Diego uniform, Fernando Tatis Jr hit a bases clearing triple, and the Padres streaked past the Arizona Diamondbacks by a 6-2 score. With the win, the Padres have outscored Arizona 21-9 in the 4 games of the series, and improve to 3-1 on the season.

Grisham got the scoring started in the first inning with a solo homer to right field to get the Padres on the board. In the 3rd, the D-Backs tied the game on a Starling Marte RBI double, then took the lead on an Eduardo Escobar RBI single, making it 2-1 Arizona. In the 4th, Jurickson Profar scored on an infield single by Greg Garcia to tie the game at two, Edward Olivares hit an RBI single to center field, and Tatis hit a 3 run triple with the bases loaded, making it 6-2, which held for the rest of the game.

Cal Quantrill got the win for the Padres, pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief, giving up no runs and allowing just two baserunners, and striking out one hitter. Joey Lucchesi started for the Padres, going 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on 5 hits and a walk, striking out two hitters. Tim Hill, Luis Perdomo, and Craig Stammen pitched after Lucchesi and Quantrill.

Tatis said of the good start to the Padres season that ''This is real big for us, the fact we got three out of four against Arizona, it shows out there the work that we're putting in, the grind. It's just a great start for us. The boys are in the same mindset to keep it on the same level and not resting until we're done with business.''

Padres manager Jayce Tingler said of the game that ''We created traffic, an underrated play was the Greg Garcia push bunt, just a heads-up play, brought in a run, another guy on base, and then Tatis hit that bullet in the gap. It's good because everybody's contributing.''

Luke Weaver started and took the loss for Arizona, going 3 1/3 innings, allowing all 6 runs on 7 hits and two walks, striking out 6 hitters. Taylor Clarke and Junior Guerra pitched for Arizona in relief of Weaver. Weaver said of his performance that ''It ended up being an abomination, the first three innings, I was grinding a little, had a guy on base every inning. Just kind of fought against those first-pitch strikes. For whatever reason, I wasn't able to land them.''

D-Backs manager Torey Lovullo wasn't pleased either, saying that ''This wasn't typical Diamondbacks baseball, whether it be on the mound or some of our at-bats, trust me, we're having constant reminders with these guys about certain things. They'll figure this out.''

The Diamondbacks have a chance to figure it out in their next series, a quick two game road trip to Texas, where Merrill Kelly will start the first game of the series. The Padres, meanwhile, are looking to keep the good times going with a 3 game series against the San Francisco Giants, where Zach Davies will make his first start in a Padres uniform in the first game.
