What a night for Jose Abreu. Abreu homered 3 times, Luis Robert added a homer, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Chicago Cubs 7-4 for their 7th straight win. This was the first 3 homer game in Abreu's career.

The White Sox started the scoring in the second inning, when Robert launched a two run homer to center field to make it 2-0 White Sox. In the bottom of the second inning, Victor Caratini hit a two run double to tie the game at two. In the 6th inning, Abreu gave the White Sox a 3-2 lead with a solo homer. In the 8th, Abreu hit a two run homer to make it 5-2 White Sox, but the Cubs did get one run back on a Willson Contreras RBI single to make it 5-3. In the 9th, Yasmani Grandal and Abreu each hit solo homers to make it 7-3, and the Cubs got one more run on an Ian Happ groundout to make it 7-4.

Gio Gonzalez got the win for the White Sox, throwing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed one hit and 3 walks, striking out two hitters. Reynaldo Lopez started for the White Sox, throwing 3 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks, striking out 4 hitters. Evan Marshall pitched the 8th inning for the White Sox, and Alex Colome worked the 9th to pick up the save.

Gonzalez has been amazed about the way the White Sox young stars, Jimenez, Robert, and Yoan Moncada have performed this season, saying postgame that ''It's unbelievable, these guys must have been born next to a nuclear power plant. They're destroying the baseball.''

The Cubs, since starting 13-3, have gone just 3-7, and lost their second straight game. Kyle Hendricks took the loss for the Cubs, throwing 5 1/3 innings. Hendricks allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and one walk, striking out 3 hitters. Ryan Tepera, Rowan Wick, Casey Sadler, and Duane Underwood Jr also pitched for the Cubs.

Cubs manager David Ross said of the team's skid postgame that ''I feel like guys are still just trying to get going, you see the difference in the two sides right now. You see an offense that's really clicking on all cylinders with a ton of confidence and our guys are still trying to get going. I think the at-bats are there. The eagerness or willingness to have and try to execute that plan, we're just not there yet - or right now, I should say.''

The series concludes on Sunday, where the White Sox will try and go for the sweep of their crosstown rivals when Dylan Cease takes the mound. The Cubs will try and salvage a game out of this series and avoid a losing streak when Yu Darvish takes the mound.
