Another year, another Mets choke. Travis d'Arnaud drove in 5 runs, the Braves scored 5 runs in the 8th, and the Atlanta Braves came back from a 6 run deficit to topple the New York Mets 11-10. D'Arnaud's double off Seth Lugo, his third hit of the game, put the Braves ahead and completed the comeback.

The Braves jumped on the board first, when Matt Adams hit an RBI single to right field to make it 1-0 in the first inning. D'Arnaud followed that up with an RBI single of his own to make it 2-0. It stayed that way until the 4th, when JD Davis clobbered a two run homer to left field to tie the game. The 5th inning was wild. Robinson Cano hit a solo homer, Pete Alonso drew a bases loaded walk, Michael Conforto drew a bases loaded walk, Yoenis Cespedes hit a two run double, and Cano hit an RBI single to make it 8-2 Mets. In the bottom half, Adams had an RBI double, d'Arnaud hit an RBI single, and Adams scored on a fielders choice to make it 8-5. The Mets got those runs right back on a Amed Rosario solo homer and an RBI single by JD Davis, making it 10-5. In the bottom of the 6th, Dansby Swanson hit an RBI double to make it 10-6. In the 8th, Swanson hit an RBI single, Ender Inciarte scored on a wild pitch, and d'Arnaud hit a 3 run double to make it 11-10.

Grant Dayton got the win for the Braves, pitching a scoreless 8th inning, allowing one hit and striking out two hitters. Starter Sean Newcomb went 4 1/3 innings, allowing 6 runs on 6 hits and one walk, striking out 4 hitters. Chris Martin pitched the 9th for his first save of the season. Jhoulys Chacin and Tyler Matzek also pitched for the Braves.

Starter Rick Porcello pitched 4 innings for the Mets, allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 5 hitters. Lugo took the loss for the Mets, getting two outs in the 8th inning. He allowed one run on one hit and one walk. Lugo said after the game that ''We've got to get ahead of guys better, including myself, we put ourselves in a hole pitching behind in counts. ... Tonight I walked the go-ahead run and that's just unacceptable.''

D'Arnaud came up big in his first game of the season, being activated from the COVID-19 IL along with fellow catcher Tyler Flowers on Wednesday. D'Arnaud said of his stay on the COVID IL that ''Monday to Monday, I only left the house to go get a big Q-tip shoved up my nose."

The series continues with a 7:10 first pitch tonight, where Touki Toussaint will get the start for the Braves, taking Mike Foltynewicz's spot in the rotation after he was DFA'd. Michael Wacha will get the start for the Mets as they look to rebound.
