The Boston Red Sox were deeply entrenched in a 9 game losing streak, and at the start of the game it seemed as if they were headed for loss number 10 in a row. Then, things turned around. Kyle Hart had a good second start, Rafael Devers had 3 RBI, and the Red Sox beat the Phillies by a 6-3 score to snap their losing streak and finally get a win.

It didn't look good in the first inning, when the Phillies jumped to a 2-0 lead on a RBI single and a sac fly. In the bottom of the third, Devers launched a two run homer to center field to tie the game at two. In the 4th, the Red Sox took a 3-2 lead on a sac fly from Jackie Bradley Jr. In the 5th, Alex Verdugo scored on a fielding error by Rhys Hoskins and a throwing error from Jake Arrieta to make it 4-2 Red Sox. In the 7th, Neil Walker scored on a throwing error to make it 4-3, but the Red Sox got that run right back in the bottom of the 7th on a Devers RBI double. In the 8th, Bradley Jr hit an RBI double to make it 6-3, which held.

Austin Brice got the win for the Red Sox, pitching 1 1/3 innings in relief of Hart. Brice didn't allow a baserunner and struck out two hitters. Brandon Workman pitched the 9th inning for his 4th save of the year, striking out one hitter. Manager Ron Roenicke said postgame that ''It's amazing how good a win feels, we did a lot of things right today, and that was really good to see.''

Hart went 3 2/3 innings in his second major league start, which was bounds better than his first start, where he only lasted into the second inning against the Tampa Bay Rays, allowing 7 runs. Hart said postgame that ''There was some improvement, as a whole, really pleased that we were able to win and that, as poorly as I started, I was able to keep us in there and give us a chance. Glad o talk to you guys after a win.''

Arrieta took the loss for the Phillies, throwing 4 1/3 innings. Arrieta allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 4 walks, striking out 3 hitters. He was upset postgame, saying that ''I don't feel like I did anything well in this start, I felt in the last three there were a lot of things I was able to accomplish. Today I just wasn't able to throw the ball in the way I expected it.''

Phillies first baseman Hoskins said after the game that ''It can be a maddening game to do everything right and not see the results you want." Manager Joe Girardi had a different take, saying that ''We made them work really hard the first inning and then we weren't able to do more after that. That, to me, was the problem.''

The Phillies head to Buffalo to play a doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. Spencer Howard gets the game one start for the Phillies and Vince Velasquez will start the second game. The Red Sox head to Camden Yards to face the Baltimore Orioles, where Nathan Eovaldi draws the start.
