The Chicago White Sox look really good. Eloy Jimenez homered, Yasmani Grandal hit a walkoff homer, and the Chicago White Sox moved into a tie for first place in the AL Central with a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals. They are now tied with the Cleveland Indians and Minnesota Twins for the lead in the AL Central, as all teams possess a 20-12 record entering play on August 29.

The White Sox started the scoring in the second inning, when Luis Robert hit a solo homer to right field to make it 1-0. That lead didn't last very long, as Whit Merrifield hit a solo homer and Ryan O'Hearn hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning to make it 2-1 Royals. In the 5th, Jimenez put the White Sox ahead 3-2 with a two run homer. In the 6th, Nomar Mazara drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-2 White Sox. In the 7th, Jorge Soler hit a two run homer to tie the game at 4, but the White Sox got the lead right back on a Yoan Moncada RBI single. In the 9th, after the Royals tied it at 5, Grandal hit a homer to right field to end the game.

Alex Colome got the win for the White Sox, after blowing his first save of the season in the 9th inning. He threw 1 1/3 innings and allowed one run, striking out one hitter. Reynaldo Lopez started for the White Sox, throwing 4 innings. Lopez allowed two runs on 6 hits and two walks, striking out 4 hitters. Codi Heuer, Matt Foster, Evan Marshall, and Jimmy Cordero also pitched for the White Sox.

Ian Kennedy took the loss for the Royals, giving up the walkoff homer to Grandal in the 9th, before he could even get one out. His ERA raised to 7.90 as a result, and he fell to 0-2 on the season. Kennedy said after the game that ''We fought so hard to get back, every time in that game, multiple times, that's one of the worst feelings as a reliever, getting walked off."

Royals manager Mike Matheny said of the game that ''For our team to take that next step, we have to be relentless in those situations, we can't let teams off the hook as often as we have. We're facing major league-caliber pitching. I get it. It's just that it's going to continue to be the conversation. They're going to get sick and tired of hearing about it, but it's too big of a piece of the puzzle for us, to not make a mark early, to not figure out how to get it done late.''

The series continues on Saturday, where the Royals will look to rebound when they send Brady Singer to the mound. Dylan Cease takes the mound for the White Sox.
