The future is now in Detroit. The Detroit Tigers have announced that top pitching prospects Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal, along with top infield prospect Isaac Paredes, have been called up. According to MLB pipeline's ratings, Mize is second in the organization, Skubal is 5th, and Paredes is 6th ranked. Skubal will make his debut on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox, while Mize will start Wednesday. It is unclear when Paredes could debut, but he could be in the lineup as early as tonight's game.

Tigers GM Al Avila said in an announcement that "We felt they were ready, the need obviously arose right now, the greatest need. We’re trying to get some of these guys through the season and some of these guys have gotten injured, the latest one obviously Nova. Right now, we feel they’re ready to contribute."

Mize was the Tigers top prospect from when he was drafted with the first overall pick in 2018 to when the Tigers drafted Spencer Torkelson first overall this summer. He sped through the minors, going 8-4 with a 2.71 ERA across two seasons, split between High A Lakeland and Double A Erie. He threw 123 innings in the minors, posting 120 strikeouts. He started 26 games at the minor league level.

Skubal was drafted by the Tigers in the 9th round of the 2018 draft, the same year as Mize. He burst onto the scene in 2019, going 6-8 with a 2.42 ERA in 24 games, all starts. Skubal threw 122 2/3 innings in 2019, striking out 179 hitters with Lakeland and Erie combined. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016, which cost him his Sophomore year at Seattle University. He finally hit full strength in 2019, which led to his rise in the organzation's rankings.

Paredes was not drafted by the Tigers, he was a selection by the Chicago Cubs, The Tigers acquired him in a trade at the 2017 trade deadline, which sent reliever Justin Wilson to Chicago. 2019 was Paredes's first season at the Double A level, in which he played 127 games with Erie. He hit .282 with 13 homers and 66 RBI, adding 5 stolen bases.

The Tigers are sitting at 9-10 on the season and are right in the thick of a crowded playoff race in the AL, thanks to the postseason expanding from 10 teams to 16. Infielder Dawel Lugo was DFA'd to make room for Paredes, and Beau Burrows and Anthony Castro were optioned to the Tigers alternate training site.
