What a night for the Colorado Rockies. Ryan McMahon tied the game in the 9th, Charlie Blackmon hit a walk off grand slam, and the Rockies beat the Los Angeles Angels 8-4 in epic fashion. Blackmon's grand slam capped a 5 run 9th for the Rockies, starting with McMahon's tying homer.

The Angels started the scoring in the first inning, when Jared Walsh scored on a throwing error and Justin Upton hit an RBI single, making it 2-0 Angels. In the 3rd, Trevor Story hit an RBI double and Blackmon hit a sac fly, getting the Rockies on the board and tying it at two. In the 5th, Story gave Colorado the lead on an RBI Triple. In the 8th, Walsh tied it at three with a solo homer. In the 9th, the Angels took the lead on an Anthony Bemboom solo homer, but McMahon's tying homer and Blackmon's slam gave Colorado the last laugh.

Blackmon's grand slam was the second of the season for Blackmon, and the 3rd of his career. It was also Blackmon's 4th walkoff hit of the season, with 3 of them being homers. Blackmon said after the game that ''I really just needed to not make an out. I wasn't trying to hit for extra bases or swing hard. I wanted to make sure when I swung it was in the zone, he fell behind in the count and had to throw it over the middle of the plate.''

Daniel Bard got the win for the Rockies, working the top of the 9th inning, allowing the go ahead solo homer by Bemboom. That was the only hit he allowed, striking out two hitters. German Marquez got the start for the Rockies, getting a no decision, thus leaving his record at 2-5 on the season. Marquez threw 7 innings, allowing two runs on 6 hits and one walk, striking out 5 hitters. Mychal Givens pitched the 8th, allowing the tying homer to Walsh.

Rockies manager Bud Black was pleased with his team's effort, saying after the game that ''I like the way we played. Our guys stayed at it, there was an intensity that was present all night. Even though Bard gave up a home run, he got the outs to keep it at one run.''

Ty Buttrey took the loss for the Angels, being responsible for the runners on base for Blackmon's grand slam, although Jose Quijada was on the mound. Griffin Canning got the start for the Angels, getting a no decision. Canning threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 7 hits and one walk, striking out 5 hitters. Mike Mayers and Felix Pena also pitched for the Angels.

The series continues on Saturday, where the Angels will look for the win behind starter Jaime Barria. Kyle Freeland gets the start for the Rockies.
