The Milwaukee Brewers are still right in the thick of the playoff race. Corbin Burnes threw 6 dominant innings, Ryan Braun homered, and the Brewers shut out the Kansas City Royals 5-0 on Saturday. The Brewers moved into a tie with the Cincinnati Reds for third place in the NL Central, just one game behind the second place St.Louis Cardinals.

The Brewers started the scoring in the third inning, when Luis Urias scored on a throwing error, making it 1-0 Brewers. It stayed that way all the way to the 8th inning, when the Brewers offense found some footing. Jacob Nottingham hit an RBI double, and Braun hit a 3 run homer to make it 5-0 Brewers, which held.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell addressed what it is going to take for the Brewers to make the playoffs, saying after the game that ''It's cliche. It's simple, but you win games, and you feel pretty good about your chances, we've just got to keep doing it.''

Burnes threw 6 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits, striking out 9 hitters. Burnes said after the game that ''It's always nice to play meaningful baseball this late in September, I think we're still a game out of the postseason or whatever it may be, but just to know that if you win two, three, four in a row - rattle a couple of wins, you're in the postseason.''

Kris Bubic started and took the loss for the Royals, falling to 1-6 this season, a rough rookie year. Bubic threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit and 4 walks, striking out 7 hitters. Despite getting the loss, manager Mike Matheny was still impressed by Bubic's performance, saying that ''His best, his best, yet, that's just one of those indicators of things to come, where he's controlling the strike zone with the fastball early on. That was, without question, the best breaking ball he's had so far.''

The series continues on Saturday, where the Brewers will look to stay hot as Josh Lindblom takes the mound. Brad Keller starts for the Royals.
