What a way to clinch a playoff spot. Cesar Hernandez homered, Jose Ramirez hit a walkoff homer, and the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox by a 5-3 score in dramatic fashion, to secure a playoff spot. The Indians clinched a playoff spot for the 4th time in 5 years with the win.

Hernandez got the scoring started in the first inning with a leadoff solo homer, making it 1-0 Indians early. It stayed that way until the 6th inning, when Jose Abreu got the White Sox on the board with a solo homer to right field, tying the game at one. It remained that way until the 10th inning, when Adam Engel hit an RBI triple and Nick Madrigal hit an RBI single to make it 3-1 White Sox. In the bottom of the 10th, Francisco Lindor hit an RBI double, and Ramirez delived the walkoff homer, a 3 run shot into right field.

Ramirez described his homer after the game, saying that ''Once I hit it, I knew it was a home run because I got it right on the barrel, there was a lot less champagne than usual, but it was still a good celebration.'' Ramirez has been on a very hot streak lately, putting himself back in the running for AL MVP. Ramirez said of his chances after the game that ''If it happens, it will be a great blessing from God, but in the meantime, I'm going to have a blast on the field, I've been a finalist two times, but I don't think about it.''

Phil Maton got the win for the Indians, pitching the top of the 10th, allowing the two runs scored by the White Sox. Maton's record rose to 3-3 this season. Cal Quantrill got the start for the Indians, throwing 4 innings and getting the no decision, keeping his record at an even 0. Quantrill gave up no runs on one hit and one walk, striking out 4 hitters. Adam Plutko, Oliver Perez, and Nick Wittgren also pitched for the Indians.

Matt Foster got the loss for the Indians, as he was responsible for the runners on base when Ramirez hit the walkoff homer, although Jose Ruiz actually gave up the homer. Foster fell to 5-1 on the season. Reynaldo Lopez got the start for the White Sox, throwing 5 innings and getting a no decision. Lopez allowed one run on 3 hits and two walks, striking out 3 hitters. Codi Heuer, Garrett Crochet, and Alex Colome also pitched for the White Sox.

The series continues on Wednesday, where the White Sox look to get out of a skid with Lucas Giolito taking the mound. The Indians counter with ace Shane Bieber.
