Who would have guessed that in this season, the Miami Marlins would be in playoff position? Well, in this weird season, nothing is unusual. Starling Marte homered, Jesus Aguilar drove in two runs, and the Marlins took down the Philadelphia Phillies 6-2. The teams played 7 games against each other due to both teams having heavy cancellations due to positive COVID-19 tests in both organizations.

It was the Phillies who got the scoring started, when Andrew McCutchen started the game off with a leadoff solo homer to center field to make it 1-0 Phillies. The Marlins tied it in the second inning on a Jazz Chisholm RBI single. In the 3rd, Aguilar hit a two run double to make it 3-1 Marlins. In the 4th, Brian Anderson hit an RBI double to center field to make it 4-1 Marlins. In the 6th, Miguel Rojas hit a solo homer, and one inning later, Marte added a solo homer, making it 6-1. In the 8th, Scott Kingery hit a solo homer for the Phillies to make it 6-2.

With the win, the Marlins moved into second place in the NL East, entering into a playoff spot at the same time, leapfrogging the Phillies. Manager Don Mattingly said that ''We're just kind of doing what we believed we could do, before the season, nationally nobody was thinking about the Marlins at all, but we felt pretty good about ourselves.''

Pablo Lopez got the win for the Marlins, boosting his record to 4-4 this season. Lopez threw 7 innings, allowing one run on 3 hits and no walks, striking out 6 hitters. Lopez lowered his ERA down to 4.04 this season. Brad Boxberger and Brandon Kintzler also pitched for the Marlins, with Boxberger responsible for Kingery's solo homer in the 8th inning.

Vince Velasquez got the start and the loss for the Phillies, falling to 0-1 on the season. Velasquez pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and one walk, striking out 4 hitters. Velasquez rose his ERA to 6.46 this season. Blake Parker, David Phelps, Adam Morgan, and Hector Neris also appeared in relief for the Phillies.

The Phillies return home on Tuesday to face the Mets, where Jake Arrieta gets the start for the Phillies. The Marlins welcome the Boston Red Sox to town, where Sandy Alcantara starts for the Marlins.
