NYY leads series 1-0
The New York Yankees left absolutely no doubt about game one. Aaron Judge homered, Gleyber Torres drove in 3 runs, and the Yankees shellacked the Cleveland Indians by a 12-3 score to take the first game of the series. Gerrit Cole's performance on the mound also helped out, but the big story was the offense, who scored early and often against Cleveland pitching.

The Yankees got it started in the first inning, when Judge hit a two run homer to make it 2-0. In the 3rd, Luke Voit hit an RBI double to make it 3-0 Yankees. In the bottom of the 3rd, the Indians got on the board on an RBI double from Jose Ramirez. In the 4th, Brett Gardner hit an RBI double, and DJ Lemahieu hit an RBI single, making it 5-1. The Indians got one back in the bottom of the 4th on a Josh Naylor solo homer, making it 5-2. In the 5th, Torres hit a two run homer to make it 7-2 Yankees. In the 7th, Gio Urshela hit a sac fly, Torres hit an RBI single, and Gardner hit a two run homer, making it 11-2. In the 9th, both teams got one run to make the final 12-3.

Cole got the win for the Yankees, working 7 dominant innings. Cole allowed two runs on 6 hits and no walks, striking out 13 hitters, continuing his recent playoff dominance. Cole said after the game that ''We needed to set the tone for the series, I'm obviously very thankful and humbled to be able to take the ball and be in this position. To be able to deliver feels really good.''

Shane Bieber got the loss for the Indians, looking mortal for the first time this season after dominating the regular season. Bieber worked 4 2/3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 9 hits and two walks, striking out 7 hitters. Bieber said after the game that ''The first inning didn't go as planned, I wish I would have been with my off-speed stuff in the zone, and challenged those guys a little more. I forced myself into some bad situations and some bad counts on top of not having my best stuff and making mistakes. No excuses. It was not good.''

The series continues Wednesday, where Masahiro Tanaka starts for the Yankees. Carlos Carrasco draws the start for Cleveland.
