LAD leads series 2-0
This game was a postseason classic. Tense moments, big plays, comeback attempts, it had it all. Cody Bellinger homered, robbed a homer, and the Los Angeles Dodgers fended off the San Diego Padres with a 6-5 win. The Padres attempted a late comeback, but fell just short.

There were some words exchanged after Bellinger robbed Fernando Tatis Jr of a home run. The Dodgers bench immediately exploded in celebration, and the pitcher who would've given up the homer, Brusdar Graterol, was fired up, throwing his cap in celebration, and blew a kiss at Padres 3B Manny Machado. This prompted Machado to start yelling at the Dodgers dugout, particularly Graterol. The incident didn't escalate further.

The Padres got the scoring started in the second inning, when Wil Myers hit an RBI double to center field, scoring Tommy Pham and making it 1-0 Padres. In the 3rd, Corey Seager hit a two run double to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, and Max Muncy extended it with an RBI single to bring in Seager, making it 3-1 Dodgers. In the 4th, Bellinger hit a solo homer to center field, making the Dodgers lead 4-1. In the 6th inning, Machado and Eric Hosmer both hit solo homers for the Padres, drawing them to a 4-3 deficit. In the 7th, Mookie Betts scored on a sac fly, and Muncy hit an RBI single to make it 6-3. In the 9th, Mitch Moreland hit an RBI double and Trent Grisham hit an RBI single to bring it to 6-5, but the Dodgers slammed the door from there.

Clayton Kershaw got the win for the Dodgers, throwing 6 innings in his second start of the playoffs. Kershaw allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, striking out 6 Padres hitters. Kenley Jansen started the 9th inning, but after the RBI's from Moreland and Grisham, Joe Kelly came on and got the save for the Dodgers, getting the last out of the game, a groundout from Hosmer. It took 49 pitches in the 9th to do it, but the Dodgers did it. Blake Treinen and Graterol also pitched.

Bellinger said of the win after the game that "It’s going to take a while to wind down from that one. That’s postseason baseball right there." Betts said of the game that "That’s definitely one of the better games I’ve been a part of, obviously, two teams that are very familiar with each other. It’s kind of been like that all year, and you can’t expect anything else when it’s playoff time."

Zach Davies got the loss for the Padres, working 5 innings. Davies allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, striking out 3 Dodgers. Davies was pressed into the game two start after Dinelson Lamet was ruled out for this series, and Mike Clevinger was lifted due to injury in game one, giving Davies a bigger role. Emilio Pagan, Pierce Johnson, Drew Pomeranz, and Dan Altavilla, added to the NLDS roster to replace the injured Clevinger, also pitched for the Padres.

Hosmer had the chance to give the Padres the lead in the 9th with two outs and the bases loaded, but ultimately grounded out. Hosmer said that "Those are the situations you want to come up in, those are the situations you want to come through for your team right there. It didn’t happen. We showed a lot of fight, didn’t quit as a team. It stinks that we just fell short. When our lives are on the line, we see what we’re made of, it's the same situation here. It’d be a heck of a story to come back against these guys and take this series. But certainly a lot of work we’ve got to do."

The series continues on Thursday, where Adrian Morejon starts for the Padres in a do or die game 3. Dustin May gets the start for the Dodgers.
