Series tied 1-1
What a night for the Tampa Bay Rays offense. Randy Arozarena continued his hot streak with a homer, Manuel Margot hit a two run homer, and the Rays topped the New York Yankees by a 7-5 score, tying the best of 5 ALDS series at a game apiece. Austin Meadows also homered in his first start of the playoffs.

Arozarena got the scoring started in the first with a solo homer to right field, making it 1-0 Rays. In the second inning, Giancarlo Stanton got the Yankees on the board with a solo homer, but Mike Zunino hit a two run homer shortly after to make it a 3-1 Rays lead. In the 3rd, Margot hit a two run homer to make it 5-1 Rays. In the 4th, Stanton hit a mammoth 3 run homer to cut the lead to 5-4. In the 5th, Kevin Kiermaier hit an RBI single to extend the Rays lead to 6-4. Meadows hit a solo homer in the 6th to make it 7-4. The Yankees were only able to muster one more run, an RBI single from DJ Lemahieu.

Rays manager Kevin Cash reflected on Arozarena's hot streak, saying after the game that "Randy, it's unbelievable what he's doing right now, Z came up with just a big homer for us. Meadows, it's good to see him get going; Manny just separated the game right there was good. Unfortunately we didn't get that shutdown inning we were looking for. We needed every bit of them."

Tyler Glasnow started and got the win for the Rays, dominating the Yankees order, with the exception of Stanton, who homered twice off of him. Glasnow threw 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks, striking out 10 hitters in a sharp effort. Pete Fairbanks pitched the 9th inning, earning the save. Diego Castillo and Nick Anderson each threw an inning of relief, with all 4 pitchers totaling 18 strikeouts.

Deivi Garcia served as an opener for the Yankees, pitching just one inning, allowing the solo homer to Arozarena. Garcia said after the game that "They explained to me that it was going to be a short outing, I didn't know exactly how many pitches, how many innings, anything like that, but I just went about it like a regular outing. Preparation was the same and routine was the same. I feel really good and healthy, but I don't know. We've got to see, but ideally I could be ready to pitch tomorrow or Thursday."

JA Happ got the loss for the Yankees, pitching 2 2/3 innings in relief of Garcia. Happ allowed 4 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out two hitters. Happ was surprised when he was told he would relieve Garcia, but didn't use that as an excuse after the game. Adam Ottavino, Jonathan Loaisiga, Jonathan Holder, and Nick Nelson also pitched for the Yankees.

The series continues on Wednesday, where Masahiro Tanaka starts for the Yankees. Charlie Morton gets his first start of the playoffs for the Rays.
