NYY wins series 2-0
What a game this turned out to be. Gary Sanchez homered, Giancarlo Stanton drove in two runs, and the New York Yankees advanced to the ALDS with a dramatic 10-9 win over the Cleveland Indians. This was a see-saw game from the get-go, with the name of the game being momentum swings and lead changes all throughout the night.

The Indians got the scoring started in the first inning, when Jose Ramirez hit an RBI double to make it 1-0. Josh Naylor then hit a two run double, later scoring on a single, making it 4-0 Indians. In the second inning, Stanton got the Yankees on the board with a solo homer to right field to make it a 4-1 game. In the 4th, Gio Urshela hit a grand slam, putting the Yankees in front by a 5-4 score. In the 5th, after the Yankees made it 6-4, Ramirez tied the game for Cleveland with a two run triple to right field, making it a 6-6 game. In the 6th, Sanchez hit a two run homer to make it 8-6, but in the 7th, Cleveland answered back with a two run double from Jordan Luplow and the game was tied again. In the 8th, Cesar Hernandez gave the Indians the lead on an RBI single. The Yanks then added two runs in the 9th to make it 10-9, which held.

Aroldis Chapman got the win for the Yankees, working the 8th and 9th innings in the clincher. Masahiro Tanaka got the start for the Yankees, getting a no decision. Tanaka worked into the 5th inning, but was unable to get an out in it, leaving his line at 4 innings. Tanaka allowed 6 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks, striking out 3 hitters. Chad Green, Zack Britton, and Jonathan Loaisiga also pitched for the Yankees.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said after the game that ''I'm 47 years old. I've watched a lot of baseball. I've watched a lot of my dad's playoff games, been in some really big games, and I don't know how you top that one - the back and forth, the amount of big plays, tonight just had that feeling that these guys weren't going to be denied. They weren't going to lose."

Acting manager Sandy Alomar Jr reflected on the Indians season after the loss, saying that ''We had many different things and a lot of obstacles, but this group stayed together - by any means. We had an eight-game losing streak, they came back. Today's game reflected how much this team grinds and how much they fight.'' Alomar filled in for current manager Terry Francona, who had to step away from the team temporarily while he deals with medical isssues.

The Yankees move on and face the top seed in the AL in the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS, which starts on Monday.
