New York Mets 2B Robinson Cano has been suspended by MLB for 162 games after testing positive for Stanozolol, a banned PED in baseball, according to a statement by the Commissioner's office. This is Cano's second suspension for PED's, with the first one in 2018, getting hit with a 60 game suspension. If Cano tests positive for PED's again at any point in time, he will be banned from baseball for life, with a chance at conditional reinstatement.

Mets team president Sandy Alderson said in a statement that "We were extremely disappointed to be informed about Robinson’s suspension for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the violation is very unfortunate for him, the organization, our fans, and the sport. The Mets fully support MLB’s efforts toward eliminating performance enhancing substances from the game."

Cano had a bounce back season for the Mets in 2020, hitting .316 with 10 homers and 30 RBI in 49 games played in the short 60 game season. Cano also tallied an .896 OPS in 2020 as well. In his long career, Cano is a .303 hitter, with 334 home runs and 1302 RBI in 2234 career games played, spread across 16 major league seasons. Cano has split that time with the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and the Mets.

Prior to the 2019 season, Cano and relief pitcher Edwin Diaz were acquired by the Mets in a blockbuster trade with the Mariners, with the Mets sending Jay Bruce, Gerson Bautista, Anthony Swarzak, Justin Dunn, and top prospect Jarred Kelenic to the Mariners. Diaz has had a largely disappointing tenure in New York, with Cano not too far behind him. Meanwhile, Bruce was flipped to the Phillies, Swarzak is now a free agent, Bautista remains in the Mariners organization, Dunn is on the active roster, and Kelenic is the Mariners top prospect, poised to make an impact very soon.
