Atlanta Braves 1B Freddie Freeman and Chicago White Sox 1B Jose Abreu have won the most valuable player(MVP) for their respective leagues, in an announcement by the Baseball Writers Association of America(BBWAA) last night. Both Freeman and Abreu won the MVP for the first time in their long careers.

Freeman had a fantastic season for the Braves, becoming the first Braves player to win MVP since Chipper Jones did back in 1999. Freeman certainly earned it, hitting .341 with 13 homers and 53 RBI, not missing a single game all season long. Additionally, Freeman had a 33 game on base streak going in the middle of the season, as well as an 18 game hitting streak. He also collected 137 total bases, second in the NL.

Abreu, like his counterpart, had a fantastic season for the White Sox, and he was the first White Sox player since the legendary Frank Thomas to win MVP. Thomas won his in 1993 and 1994. Abreu hit .317 with 19 homers and 60 RBI, playing all 60 games of the season. Abreu also becomes the 3rd ever Cuban born player to win MVP, joining Jose Canseco and Zoilo Versalles.

Freeman fell short of a unanimous win by two votes, collecting 28 of the 30 possible first place votes, finishing with 410 total points. He won by a landslide, too, as the second place finisher, Mookie Betts of the Dodgers, finished with 268 points. In 3rd was the Padres Manny Machado with 211 points, with fellow Padres teammate Fernando Tatis Jr coming in 4th, and Juan Soto of the Nationals in 5th place.

Abreu received 21 first place votes, 8 second place votes, and one 3rd place vote in his win, collecting 374 points. In second place was Jose Ramirez of the division rival Indians, getting 303 points. Coming in 3rd was Yankees infielder DJ Lemahieu, finishing with 230 points, getting just one first place vote. Shane Bieber of the Indians, who already won the Cy Young award, and Mike Trout of the Angels, came in 4th and 5th place respectively.
