The Colorado Rockies have traded RHP Jeff Hoffman and RHP Case Williams to the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for RHP Robert Stephenson and OF Jameson Hannah, according to MLB Insider Robert Murray. Hannah and Williams are both prospects in the minors, while Hoffman and Stephenson are established major league pitchers.

In 2020, Hoffman appeared in 16 games for the Rockies, all out of the bullpen. He pitched to a 2-1 record with a ugly 9.28 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings pitched out of Colorado's bullpen last season. In his career, Hoffman has a 10-16 record, with a 6.40 ERA in 68 appearances, with 38 of those being starts. Hoffman has spent his entire 5 year major league career with the Rockies.

Across the 2020 season, Stephenson appeared in 10 games for the Reds, all in relief action. Stephenson finished with a 0-0 record with a ugly 9.90 ERA and 13 strikeouts in just 10 innings pitched out of the bullpen. In his career, Stephenson has a record of 10-13 with a 5.15 ERA, throwing 208 innings in his 5 major league seasons, all with the Reds.

Reds general manager Nick Krall spoke about the addition of Hoffman to the team, saying that "We feel he can give us multiple innings in a relief role or potentially a fifth-starter’s spot, he's versatile with what he does, and he’s got pretty good stuff... We’re excited to get him and see what we can do to work with him and see him make progressions."

Krall also talked about the acquisition of Williams, saying that "Case Williams is a kid that we were going to take in the fourth round and Colorado picked our pocket right ahead of us, our guys really liked him. He’s a big, strong high school kid that’s got good stuff. He’s got a chance to have three solid pitches."

Williams was selected in the 2020 draft, in the 4th round by the Rockies, but as Krall mentioned, the Reds were high on him and were planning to select him, but the Rockies undid those plans. Hannah was the 15th overall prospect in the Reds system, and he was acquired at the 2019 trade deadline from the Oakland Athletics in a trade that sent Tanner Roark to Oakland.
