The Kansas City Royals have signed veteran LHP Mike Minor, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The deal is for two years and $18 million, with a $13 million team option for the 2023 season, with a $1 million buyout. The Royals have confirmed the deal.

After a strong 2019 season, Minor had a subpar 2020 season, pitching to a 1-6 record with a 5.56 ERA in 12 games this season, 11 of which were starts. Minor spent the 2020 season between the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics, being traded to Oakland at the deadline. In his career, Minor has a 71-66 record with a 3.98 career ERA in 248 games, 181 of which were starts.

Minor has played for the Royals before, signing a two year deal prior to the 2016 season in Kansas City. Minor spent most of 2016 injured, but did play a big role in the 2017 season. Minor had a 6-6 record with a 2.55 ERA, serving as a reliever, appearing in 65 games, all out of the bullpen. Minor also had 6 saves in 2017 as well.

Minor has spent 9 years in the major leagues, suiting up for the Atlanta Braves, Royals, Rangers, and Athletics. Minor will bring veteran experience and pitching depth for a Royals team with lots of young starters, both in the rotation currently, as well as several pitching prospects in the minors as well. Top prospects Kris Bubic and Brady Singer both debuted last season for the Royals, with more on the way.
