The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded for RHP Corey Knebel from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to announcements made by both teams. The Brewers will be getting either cash considerations or a player to be named later. There was lots of speculation that Knebel would've been non tendered by the Brewers if a trade couldn't be worked out.

Brewers GM David Stearns commented on Knebel's time with the Brewers, saying that "Corey had a tremendous career as a Brewer, he pitched in some of the biggest games in the history of this franchise, and he pitched incredibly well. When you think about the stretch run in 2018, what he did in September and October, you can make the argument that those were two of the more impressive months of performance for any reliever in recent memory. Corey’s meant a lot to this franchise. He’s earned the respect of a lot of people around the Brewers, and we wish him very well."

Knebel struggled in 2020 for the Brewers, putting up a 0-0 record with a high 6.08 ERA with 15 strikeouts and 13 1/3 innings pitched in 15 relief appearances for the Brewers. In Knebel's career, he has a 6-11 record with a 3.31 ERA and 236 1/3 innings pitched in 239 appearances, all in relief. Knebel has spent his 7 year major league career with two teams, one season in Detroit in 2014, and the other 6 with the Brewers. Knebel missed all of 2019 while rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery.

Knebel commented on joining the defending world champion Dodgers, saying that "I will say, that’s really exciting, if there’s a team to go to, it’s the World Series champions. I enjoyed my time in Milwaukee. I love Wisconsin, love the fans. It’s been awesome. Of course, I always had a lot of respect for the Dodgers and now, I’m on their side. I’m really excited for this new chapter I’m starting."

The Dodgers took a low risk, high reward move for the second time in as many years with the Knebel trade. They did the same last year by signing Blake Treinen, who had a similar profile to Knebel: A former all-star closer who had struggled and lost the closer's job after a bad season. The Dodgers then turned Treinen into what he used to be, and he was one of their most important relievers down the stretch, which they are hoping to do the same with Knebel.
