The Texas Rangers have signed OF David Dahl to a one year contract, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The contract gives Dahl $3 million for the 2021 season. Dahl could remain with the Rangers past this season, despite this being a one year contract, as he is arbitration eligible for the next two seasons. He will hit free agency after the 2023 season unless the Rangers non-tender him before that. The Rangers have confirmed the deal.

Dahl struggled during this season with the Colorado Rockies, hitting just .183 with no home runs and just 9 RBI in 24 games played for the Rockies, posting just a meager .470 OPS as well. In his 4 year major league career, Dahl is a .286 hitter with 38 homers and 142 RBI in 264 games played in his 4 seasons, posting a career .828 OPS as well. Dahl has spent all 4 seasons with the Rockies before he was non tendered on December 5.

In his short major league career, Dahl has seen playing time at all 3 outfield positions, and is able to play all of them well, which is needed versatility for the Rangers. Dahl will get the chance to become the everyday left fielder in Texas, alongside Nick Solak in center field and Joey Gallo in right, potentially leapfrogging Willie Calhoun in the depth chart in left field.

Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said that one of his main goals this offseason was to improve the offense, and if the Rangers get the 2019 version of David Dahl, the .302 hitter with with 15 homers and 61 RBI's while making the NL All Star team, then that is a good start towards a better offense.
