The Chicago White Sox and RHP Evan Marshall have avoided an arbitration hearing, according to MLB.com's Scott Merkin. The White Sox and Marshall agreed on a one year contract worth $2 million to avoid arbitration for this season. The White Sox have confirmed the deal with Marshall.

Marshall put up solid numbers for the White Sox in 2020, posting a 2-1 record with a 2.38 ERA, striking out 30 hitters in 22 2/3 innings pitched across 23 relief appearances for the White Sox in their first playoff appearance since 2008, and their first winning season since 2012. In Marshall's career, he has a 10-10 record with a 3.96 ERA, throwing 166 innings in 179 appearances, all in relief.

Marshall has spent his 7 year major league career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners, Cleveland Indians, and the White Sox. Marshall signed with the White Sox prior to the 2019 season, after posting a rather high 7.71 ERA in 10 appearances for the Indians in 2018. Marshall appeared in the deciding game 3 of the wild card series for the White Sox against the Oakland Athletics, throwing two innings in a loss for the White Sox, ending their season.

After the White Sox avoided arbitration with Marshall and OF Adam Engel, RHP's Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez remain the only arbitration eligible players who haven't agreed to a contract with the White Sox. Marshall will rejoin a White Sox bullpen that features Aaron Bummer, Codi Heuer, Matt Foster, Jace Fry, and Jimmy Cordero, with top prospect Garrett Crochet also in the mix for some innings.
