The Chicago White Sox have acquired RHP Lance Lynn from the Texas Rangers, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. Pitching prospects Dane Dunning and Avery Weems are heading to Texas in return. Both teams have confirmed the trade, which boosts the White Sox rotation.

Lynn had a strong 2020 season for the Rangers, posting a 6-3 record with a 3.32 ERA in 13 starts for the Rangers, striking out 89 hitters in 84 innings pitched. In his 9 year major league career, Lynn has a 104-71 record with a 3.57 ERA in 260 career appearances, with 236 of those being starts. Lynn also has 1,426 2/3 innings pitched in that time. Lynn has suited up for the St.Louis Cardinals, Minnesota Twins, New York Yankees, and the Rangers in his career.

Dunning, the White Sox 5th ranked prospect, debuted in 2020 for the White Sox, and started game 3 of the wild card series against the Oakland Athletics, a game the White Sox lost. Dunning posted a 2-0 record with a 3.97 ERA for the White Sox in 7 starts on the season, totaling 34 innings pitched, striking out 35 hitters.

Lynn provides the White Sox with a sneaky good top 3 starters in the rotation, joining forces with Lucas Giolito and Dallas Keuchel. The White Sox had been in the market for a 3rd starter since free agency began, and that need was evident as Dunning had to start the deciding game 3 of the wild card round as there were no clear cut options for that role. Lynn also brings veteran experience to a mostly young rotation, as top prospect Michael Kopech, Dylan Cease, and Reynaldo Lopez will be competing for the final two spots in the rotation.
