The San Francisco Giants have signed 2B Tommy LaStella to a 3 year contract, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. The deal is worth $18.75 million, giving it a $6.25 million annual salary. The Giants have confirmed the contract.

LaStella spent the short 2020 season with the Los Angeles Angels and Oakland Athletics, posting a .281 average with an .819 OPS, hitting 5 homers and driving in 25 runs in 55 games played, 28 of which came with the Angels, the other 27 with Oakland. In his 7 year major league career, LaStella is a .274 hitter with a .754 OPS, hitting 31 homers and 163 RBI in 531 games played, spending time with the Angels, Athletics, Atlanta Braves, and Chicago Cubs.

LaStella hadn't been anything particularly special until 2019, his first season with the Angels. He started crushing the ball, with a .295 average and an .832 OPS, hitting 16 homers and 44 RBI in 80 games, earning his first all star game selection. LaStella also has a championship background, and a relationship with Giants GM Scott Harris, as both were members of the Cubs when they won their first title in 108 years in the 2016 season.

LaStella has experience at second base, as well as first base and 3rd, which will be needed in San Francisco, as Donovan Solano is coming off a breakout 2020 at second base, and Brandon Belt is pretty solidly entrenched at first base. LaStella could platoon with Evan Longoria at 3rd, as well as Solano at second, which is likely where he'll be getting the majority of his playing time, as second base is his primary position.

LaStella joins catcher Curt Casali as the only notable position players to be signed by the Giants this offseason, as they've primarily focused on the pitching. They've added Alex Wood, Anthony DeSclafani, John Brebbia, and Kevin Gausman this winter, with Gausman returning on the one year qualifying offer.
