The San Diego Padres have signed utility player Jurickson Profar to a 3 year, $21 million deal, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand. Profar served as a utility player last season with the Padres, getting playing time at lots of different positions, which is crucial for any contending team to have. The Padres bringing back Profar solidifies one of the most important spots on the bench, and it might be the final piece to their offseason puzzle. San Diego has confirmed the deal.

Profar suited up for 56 games for the Padres in 2020, hitting .278 with a .771 OPS, hitting 7 homers and 25 RBI in his 56 games. Profar has spent time with the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics as well as the Padres, posting a .238 career average with a .715 OPS, hitting 59 homers and 222 RBI in 547 games played in 7 major league seasons.

Profar arrived in San Diego in a trade with the Athletics, and quickly became a favorite in the clubhouse. Profar played 5 different positions in 2020, primarily left field after Tommy Pham went down. Now that Pham is returning at full strength, Profar will be playing more positions than primarily left field, which he's shown he's capable of doing, playing all 4 infield positions as well.

Profar is the latest acquisition in a very busy Padres offseason. Ha-Seong Kim was added to the infield depth chart, and the starting pitching was upgraded in a very major way, with Joe Musgrove, Blake Snell, and Yu Darvish being added in 3 separate trades this winter.
