Yankees add oft-injured Kluber

The New York Yankees have done some things in the offseason. The Yankees are signing RHP Corey Kluber to a one year, $11 million deal, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal has been confirmed by the Yankees.

Kluber's last fully healthy season was in 2018, when he pitched to a 20-7 record with a 2.89 ERA, striking out 222 hitters in 215 innings pitched across 33 starts for the Cleveland Indians. In Kluber's 10 seasons, he has a 98-58 record with a 3.16 ERA, throwing 1,342 2/3 innings in 209 games, 204 of which were starts.

Kluber's biggest problem is injuries, as he hasn't been fully healthy since 2018. He missed a big chunk of the 2019 season with an arm injury, which carried over to 2020, as he was pulled from his first start with the Texas Rangers one inning into the game, and didn't pitch again in 2020. If he can return to full health with the Yankees, he'll be a good pitcher, as he is a two time Cy Young winner and a 3 time all star. But if he can't stay healthy, then obviously he can't help your team.

Kluber hosted a workout last week in Florida to prove himself to MLB teams, and at least 25 teams were in attendance, including the Yankees. After Kluber's workout, in which he was throwing over 90 mph, talks really heated up, and Kluber was able to sign with the Yankees just a few days after his workout.

Kluber joins a Yankee rotation with a lot of question marks on the back end. Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery have holds on rotation spots, with top prospect Deivi Garcia figuring to get a full season of work. Fellow top prospect Clarke Schmidt, along with veteran Domingo German, are also in the mix to potentially get innings as well, as is Luis Severino when he returns from Tommy John surgery.
