Duvall signing with Marlins on one year deal

Adam Duvall is headed to South Beach. Duvall and the Miami Marlins are in agreement on a one year contract worth $5 million guaranteed, first broke by MLB.com's Craig Mish. There is a $7 million mutual option in Duvall's contract for the 2022 season, with a $3 million buyout. Combine the option with the $2 million Duvall will make this season, and that gives him $5 million guaranteed. The Marlins have confirmed the contract.

Duvall had a resurgent season with the Atlanta Braves in 2020, posting an average of .237, with an .833 OPS, hitting 16 homers and driving in 33 runs in 57 games played for the Braves, who made it all the way to the NLCS before losing to the Dodgers. In Duvall's 7 seasons, he has a .233 average with a .761 OPS, hitting 113 homers and driving in 329 runs in 598 games played.

Duvall was projected to earn between $4.4 million and $7.1 million in his second season of arbitration eligibility this offseason, but despite his strong season, the Braves decided to non tender him in December after 2 1/2 seasons with the team, which put Duvall on the open market, where after 3 months, has now signed with the Marlins.

Duvall will likely slot in as the starting right fielder in Miami, with Corey Dickerson in left field and Starling Marte in center. On the bench, the Marlins have Lewis Brinson, Magneuris Sierra, and Harold Ramirez, along with prospects Monte Harrison and Jesus Sanchez, who also played in the outfield last season, giving Miami a deep outfield depth chart.

Duvall deepens an already deep outfield group in Miami. Besides the guys just mentioned, 7 of the top 30 prospects in the Marlins system are outfielders, which could lead to the Marlins having a deadly outfield for years to come, despite Dickerson and Marte becoming free agents this offseason, along with Duvall potentially.
