The Kansas City Royals have added a familiar face to their roster for the 2021 season. The Royals have signed OF Jarrod Dyson to a one year, $1.5 million deal, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. Dyson played 7 seasons with the Royals at the beginning of his career, and he's back for another season. The Royals have confirmed the deal.

Dyson split the Pandemic shortened 2020 season with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox, with an average of just .180 and a meager .411 OPS, hitting zero homers and driving in 5 runs, also stealing 6 bases in 32 games played in the season. In his 11 big league seasons, Dyson has a .246 average with a lower .641 OPS, hitting 21 homers and driving in 175 runs in 890 games played.

Dyson is not much of a hitter by any means, but he can serve as a pinch runner and a defensive substitute in the Royals depth chart, and his fast legs can be an asset defensively and running the bases. Dyson spent the first 7 seasons of his career with the Royals, playing a part in the AL champion 2014 team, and the World Series champion 2015 team. Prior to the 2017 season, he became a member of the Seattle Mariners, where he stayed for one season before heading to the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he stayed for two seasons before 2020, where he split time with the Pirates and White Sox.

Dyson joins Greg Holland and Wade Davis as members of the 2015 team that are on the Royals this season. Mike Minor and Ervin Santana, also former Royals, have been signed by Kansas City this offseason as well. Dyson joins a Royals outfield picture that includes new acquisitions Andrew Benintendi and Michael A Taylor, as well as Whit Merrifield, Jorge Soler, Hunter Dozier, and prospects Edward Olivares and Nick Heath.
