The Tampa Bay Rays are never out of games. Not until the final out is recorded. They showed that on Friday night. Joey Wendle homered, the Rays scored 4 in the 9th, and the Rays rallied late to defeat the Miami Marlins with a 6-4 win Friday night, improving to 2-0 this season.

Austin Meadows got the Rays on the board in the 6th inning, with a long solo homer to right field to make it 1-0. In the top of the 7th, Manuel Margot homered to make it 2-0 Rays. In the bottom half, Corey Dickerson hit an RBI single, and Miguel Rojas hit a two run single, and the Marlins took a 3-2 lead. In the 8th, Magneuris Sierra scored on a throwing error to make it 4-2 Marlins. In the 9th, Wendle hit a 3 run homer, and Margot scored on a sac fly to make it 6-4 Rays.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said of the team's potent offense that "We've got a very good offense. They're going to get going. Maybe that gets them going. But that’s just how much they care about each other. Whether it's pitching, defense or offense, they totally recognized that we do things together. When we're winning games, it takes a lot of contributions."

Andrew Kittredge got the win for the Rays, pitching in the 8th inning, allowing one run on two hits and a walk. Ryan Yarbrough started the game for the Rays, working 5 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits, not walking anyone and striking out 3 hitters. Diego Castillo locked down the 9th for his second save this season. Chaz Roe, Pete Fairbanks, and Ryan Sherriff also pitched for Tampa Bay.

Yarbrough said of Wendle's homer that I feel like that's kind of how our team is built, like anyone on any given day can step up and help us win the ballgame. It's exciting to see that and just huge for Joey and just the whole team not to give in or anything like that, keep battling and then come back and win the ballgame."

Anthony Bass took the loss for the Marlins, blowing the save in the 9th inning, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits. Pablo Lopez was the starter for the Marlins, going 5 innings, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks, striking out 4 hitters. John Curtiss, Richard Bleier, and Yimi Garcia also pitched for Miami.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly said of the loss that "The guys battled tonight and showed you after not scoring for 15 innings that all of a sudden things start to roll. We felt a little better about ourselves offensively after this game. We’re gonna be fine."

Game 3 of the series between the Rays and Marlins is tonight, with Rich Hill going for the Rays, and Elieser Hernandez going for Miami.
