Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts finally hit his first homer of the season. It could not have come at a better time. Bogaerts homered, Bobby Dalbec hit an RBI triple, and the Red Sox topped the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-2 victory Tuesday night.

Bo Bichette got the Blue Jays on the board in the 4th inning with a long solo homer to make it 1-0 Toronto. In the bottom of the 4th, Bogaerts crushed a 3 run homer, and Dalbec hit an RBI triple to give the Red Sox a 4-1 lead. In the 7th, Randal Grichuk homered to make it 4-2 Blue Jays, but they could not get any more runs.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said of the big 4th inning from the Red Sox that "The Blue Jays  needed a shutdown inning, they didn’t get it. It was a good swing. That was a good effort against a good pitcher."

Eduardo Rodriguez got the win for the Red Sox in his 3rd start of the season, improving to 3-0 this season. Rodriguez allowed two runs on 3 hits and one walk, striking out 6 hitters across 6 innings. He did start the 7th inning, but gave up the leadoff homer to Grichuk and was then pulled. Matt Andriese and Adam Ottavino both pitched clean innings out of the bullpen, and Matt Barnes picked up the save in the 9th.

Cora said of another brilliant start from Rodriguez that "He’s evolving into one of the best lefties in the league. He attacks the zone with good stuff. The tempo is magnificent. He slows the running game down, too. He has a good feel of what he wants to do."

Hyun-Jin Ryu took the loss for Toronto, dropping to a 1-2 record this season. Ryu allowed 4 runs on 8 hits, striking out just two hitters in 5 innings of work. Joel Payamps then came on and threw 1 2/3 innings of shutout work, and Anthony Castro threw 1 1/3 innings of work.

Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo said of the loss that "We all know that they can do better, they’re just not doing it right now. Like I always say, hitting is contagious, and right now, when you don’t hit, everybody feels the pressure. For sure, these last couple of games, that’s what it looks like."

The Blue Jays and Red Sox face off again tonight, with Garrett Richards starting for Boston, and Trent Thornton going for Toronto.
