The Braves saw an intriguing infielder available on the trade market, and used their pitching depth to make it work. The Braves have acquired SS Orlando Arcia from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for RHP's Chad Sobotka and Patrick Weigel, according to Robert Murray of FanSided. The Braves have confirmed the trade.

In the short 2020 season, Arcia posted a .260 average with a .734 OPS, hitting 5 homers and driving in 20 runs in 59 games played for the Brewers. In 4 games this season, Arcia is 1-11 with one RBI in the Brewers infield. In his 5 seasons prior to this one, Arcia is a .244 hitter with 42 homers and 179 RBI in 542 games played with Milwaukee.

Braves manager Brian Snitker said of trading for Arcia that "I was a little surprised he was available. Any time you can upgrade and add depth to the shortstop position, it’s really a good move. If you can play shortstop, you can usually move those guys around the diamond. He’s had some good years."

Arcia was at one time one of the highest touted prospects in baseball, being in the top 100 prospects for MLB pipleline, and the best in the Brewers system as recent as 2016. Despite being the opening day shortstop for 4 straight seasons, Arcia hasn't lived up to that big billing, being moved to 3rd base this year in Milwaukee, with Luis Urias becoming the everyday shortstop.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of trading Arcia that "Look, this is a player who spent 12 years in the organization. He's been here in the big leagues with us for the last five and he's been part of, and frankly, right in the middle of all the memorable moments that have happened here in the last 4-5 seasons. And not just here for them, but literally right in the middle of them."

Arcia was optioned to the Braves alternate site, at Triple A Gwinnett, to get some work in, before likely becoming a versatile bench piece when the Braves need him.
