Trevor Bauer pitched against the Padres in spring training with one eye closed. After Fernando Tatis Jr homered against him Saturday night, he closed one eye rounding first base. That is a staple of baseball's newest big rivalry. Corey Seager drove in two runs, Justin Turner added an RBI, and the Los Angeles Dodgers topped the San Diego Padres with a 5-4 win Saturday night.

Tatis started the scoring in the first inning with a solo homer in the first inning to make it 1-0 Padres. In the second, Jurickson Profar hit an RBI single to make it 2-0 Padres. In the 3rd, Turner hit an RBI single to cut the Padres lead to 2-1. In the 4th, Sheldon Neuse hit an RBI single to tie it at two apiece. In the top of the 6th, Tatis homered to make it 3-2, but in the bottom of the 6th, Seager hit a two run single and Neuse scored on a bases loaded walk to make it 5-3 Dodgers. The Padres got one more run to make it 5-4, but couldn't get any more.

Seager said of the win that "There are a lot of professionals in this clubhouse. Everybody goes about their business and everybody knows how to get ready. I think we’ve done that, but we’ve kind of been unlucky. We’ve had moments where we hit the ball hard. We just haven’t had that big hit in that moment to kind of pass the baton and keep things going. Tonight we did."

Trevor Bauer got the win for the Dodgers, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 9 hitters over 6 innings pitched. Victor Gonzalez then only got one out in the 7th before Blake Treinen came in, who worked one inning before Scott Alexander worked 1/3 of an inning. Kenley Jansen then came on for a 4 out save.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the win that "Just throughout the night, I thought we had some singles. We didn’t slug but I just really thought we kept the line moving which was really important. I think guys used the big part of the field today. We just got some big hits and they did find some holes. It was a lot of good offense tonight."

Pierce Johnson took the loss for the Padres, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits and a walk, not getting a single out in his relief appearance. Blake Snell started for the Padres, going 5 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on 7 hits and two walks, striking out 7 hitters. Tim Hill then worked 2/3 of an inning after Snell and Johnson left, and then Aaron Northcraft worked two innings.

Tatis said of closing one eye on Bauer that "He got me at home, so it was probably payback time. If you give up a homer, a guy should celebrate it. It's hard to hit in the big leagues. So I’m all for it, and I think that it’s important that the game moves in that direction and that we stop throwing at people because they celebrated having some success on the field."

The Dodgers and Padres wrap up their series tonight, with Dustin May starting for the Dodgers, and Joe Musgrove starting for the Padres.
