Dylan Moore hadn't played 3rd base since he committed 3 errors in one inning against the Boston Red Sox in 2019. After Ty France got injured, however, he had to go back there mid game, against one of baseball's best teams in the Los Angeles Dodgers. Then, he delivered. Taylor Trammell homered, Moore made a game saving catch, and the Mariners continued their hot start to the season with a 4-3 win over the defending world champion Dodgers Monday night.

Jose Marmolejos started the scoring for the Mariners in the first inning with a two run homer to right field, making it 2-0 Mariners early on. In the second, Trammell hit a solo homer to increase Seattle's lead to 3-0 early on. In the 3rd inning, Corey Seager hit a two run homer to get the Dodgers on the board and cut Seattle's lead to 3-2. In the 4th, Trammell hit an RBI double to make it a 4-2 game. In the 6th, Zach McKinstry hit an RBI single to make it 4-3, but that was all the Dodgers could muster.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said of Moore's big defensive play that "He has a knack for making plays. He's super athletic. You see the diving plays, and he finishes plays. A lot of guys dive and knock it down but the ball kicks out of their glove. Doesn’t happen so much with Dylan."

Justus Sheffield got the victory for the Mariners, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks, striking out 6 hitters in 5 2/3 innings pitched. After Sheffield left, the bullpen was perfect, with Will Vest, Kendall Graveman, Anthony Misiewicz, and Rafael Montero combining to allow zero runs on just one hit and two walks, with Montero getting the save.

Graveman said of the bullpen's dominance that "We talk a lot with the starters on how to pitch guys, how are we approaching guys? And it’s an ongoing conversation. I think that's one of the reasons why we've been successful throwing the baseball this year is how well we've prepared and how much conversation back and forth of, ‘What will we do to this guy?’"

Dustin May got the loss in his start for the Dodgers, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and one walk, striking out 8 hitters in the loss. David Price, Jimmy Nelson, and Scott Alexander pitched after May left, each throwing scoreless innings of work.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the loss that "Today, we just couldn’t put a bunch of hits together. We had the winning run on first base in the ninth inning. I thought we competed, like I would expect. Just got behind the eight-ball a little bit."

The Dodgers and Mariners face off again tonight, with Marco Gonzales starting for Seattle, and Julio Urias going for the Dodgers.
