Tied entering the 9th inning, the New York Mets turned to Michael Conforto, and he delivered. Pete Alonso doubled, Conforto hit the game winning homer, as well as driving in 3 runs, and the Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies with a 5-4 win Saturday night.

The Mets started by scoring 4 runs in the first, on an Alonso RBI double, a Conforto two run double, and an RBI single by JD Davis. In the second, Alec Bohm scored on a ground out, and Zack Wheeler hit an RBI single to cut the Mets lead to 4-2. In the 6th, Bohm hit a two run homer to make it a 4-4 game. In the 9th, Conforto hit a leadoff solo homer to make it 5-4 Mets.

Conforto, when asked about his game winning homer, gave the credit to a mystery man named Donnie, who didn't appear in any media guide for the Mets. Conforto simply said that "I don’t know, maybe I’ve got to give credit to Donnie."

Alonso also credited this Donnie for helping the Mets win, as he said in his postgame interview that "Donnie’s been great helping the team. Donnie really helped us today."

Trevor May got the win for the Mets, throwing a scoreless 8th inning in relief. Taijuan Walker got the start for the Mets, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and one walk, recording 4 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched. Aaron Loup threw a scoreless 7th inning, and Edwin Diaz shut down the Phillies in the 9th for his 3rd save.

Hector Neris took the loss for the Phillies, working the 9th inning and allowing the homer to Conforto. Wheeler pitched 7 strong innings for Philly, allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and one walk, striking out 6 hitters. Connor Brogdon threw the 8th inning, not allowing a run.

Bohm said of bouncing back after a tough start to the season that "I haven’t probably handled my start, I guess, as good as I could have. So, really, I’m just trying to stay positive with everything. Today was a good day. The swing’s not the problem. There’s nothing I’m really working on and really trying to fix. There’s nothing to fix. It’s just, keep doing what I’m doing and things will change."

The Mets and Phillies wrap up their series tonight, with David Peterson getting the start for New York, and the Phillies are sending Zach Eflin to the mound.
