Mazeika magic gives Mets walkoff win

Patrick Mazeika already had one walkoff hit in his MLB career with the New York Mets, which came last Friday. Entering the box on Tuesday night, he had the chance to do it again. He made that chance count. Michael Conforto hit an RBI single, Mazeika got another walk off hit, and the Mets defeated the Baltimore Orioles with a 3-2 win Tuesday night.

When asked about which walk off he liked better, Mazeika couldn't pick one, saying that "They’re both pretty exciting. It’s hard to say which one’s better. Tonight, probably. It’s keeping things going, and we’ve been playing really good baseball."

The Mets got on the board late, with Conforto's RBI single coming in the 8th inning, which cut the Baltimore lead to 2-1. In the 9th, Dominic Smith hit a single, which, combined with a throwing error, scored Kevin Pillar and tied the game at two. Mazeika then reached base on a fielders choice, which scored Jonathan Villar and gave the Mets a walkoff win.

Mets manager Luis Rojas said of Mazeika's two walkoff hits that "Mazeika, just knowing him from the past, he’s known for taking quality at-bats. And that’s what he’s done every time he’s up there, right? He’s put the ball in play."

Jeurys Familia got the win for the Mets after pitching a scoreless top of the 9th inning. The win continues a surge in May for the Mets, as they now have won 6 straight games, their last loss on May 5th against the St.Louis Cardinals. Albert Almora Jr left the game early for the Mets after crashing into the center field fence trying to make a play on a ball.

The Orioles got on the board in the 7th, on a Pat Valaika sac fly. In the 8th, Freddy Galvis hit an RBI single to make it 2-0, before the Mets came back and won. Cesar Valdez got the loss for the Orioles, allowing the two Mets runs in the 9th that gave them the walkoff win. John Means was the starter, and threw 6 scoreless innings, striking out 3 hitters.

Means said of his first outing after his no hitter that "I was just trying to get another good outing out of the way and move on. I wasn't hanging on it. But after the first hit, you almost take a sigh of relief. You can just go back to not thinking about it anymore, and just pitching."

The Mets and Orioles play again today, with Taijuan Walker starting for the Mets, and Matt Harvey starting for Baltimore.
