These Cincinnati Reds have quite an offense. It erupted with a vengeance Monday night. Tyler Naquin drove in 4 runs, Nick Senzel drove in 3, and the Reds annihilated the Pirates with a 14-1 win Monday night. Pittsburgh's only run came on a Jacob Stallings solo homer in the second inning.

Eugenio Suarez hit a solo homer in the second inning, and the game was tied 1-1 after two. In the 4th, Mike Moustakas hit an RBI single, Senzel hit a two run single, Naquin hit an RBI double, and Tucker Barnhart hit a two run double. In the 6th, Barnhart scored on a fielders choice. In the 7th, Naquin hit a 3 run homer. In the 8th, an RBI double by Senzel and a two run double by Nick Castellanos made it a 14-1 game.

Barnhart said of the offensive eruption that "To be able to kind of add on and put good at-bats together says a lot about our team, about the group of guys that we have. Obviously, very good results tonight. Just got to come back tomorrow ready to go."

Tyler Mahle got the win for the Reds, allowing just one run while giving up 4 hits and 4 walks, striking out 7 hitters in 5 1/3 innings pitched. Heath Hembree pitched an inning of relief, Amir Garrett threw 1 2/3 innings, and Sal Romano finished off the game with one inning of relief work.

Barnhart said of Mahle's outing that he "Just was struggling to kind of find his slider right out of the gate, but was able to find it later on in the outing. I told him, ‘Man, you would have been able to get through the sixth inning if you wouldn’t have ran the bases four times.'"

Mitch Keller got hit hard in his start for the Pirates, allowing 7 runs on 7 hits and two walks, recording just two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work. Duane Underwood Jr threw 1 2/3 innings of work, Luis Oviedo fired two innings, and Geoff Hartlieb added two innings as well.

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said of the loss that "In the big leagues, when you don't hit locations, you end up being in the middle of the plate, especially with a club that swings the bat as aggressively as they do. You get yourself in trouble, and that's kind of what happened."

The Pirates and Reds continue their series tonight, with Jeff Hoffman starting for the Reds and JT Brubaker going for Pittsburgh.
