Yanks Kluber no hits Rangers

Wow, we have reached no hitter number 6 of the season. Remember yesterday, when I said the Texas Rangers haven't been no hit twice this season? Turns out that didn't age well. Corey Kluber threw a no hitter, Tyler Wade hit an RBI triple, and the New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers with a 2-0 win Wednesday night.

Kluber's no hitter was the first for the Yankees in the 21st century, the last one coming in 1999. He walked just one batter and hit another, allowing just two baserunners all night, while striking out 9 hitters. Kluber said "I’ve never been part of one or witnessed one, let alone thrown one. So, more than anything, it was a lot of fun to be a part of."

Both of the Yankees two runs came in the 6th inning. Wade crunched an RBI triple to deep center field first, scoring Kyle Higashioka and making it a 1-0 lead for the Yankees. The next batter up was DJ Lemahieu, who flew out to left field, but it was deep enough to score Wade, making it a 2-0 Yankees lead, which they held on to.

Kluber became the 6th pitcher to throw a no hitter this season, in a season marked by dominant pitchers so far. He also became the 3rd pitcher to throw a no hitter in May this season, and the second pitcher in two days. Joe Musgrove and Carlos Rodon threw no hitters in April, while John Means, Wade Miley, Spencer Turnbull, and now Kluber have thrown no hitters in May. Turnbull's no hitter was on Tuesday night against Seattle.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said of Kluber's no hitter that "For some reason, it popped in my head the first inning, I’m not kidding you. I found myself, in the last two innings, every ball that was hit you think it’s destined to be a hit when it’s probably not. I think just because you’re probably a little bit more emotional in the moment."

For the Rangers, they have become the 3rd team in baseball to be no hit twice this season, as they were no hit by Musgrove in early April, also at their own stadium. The Cleveland Indians and Seattle Mariners are the other two teams who have been no hit twice, with Cleveland being no hit by Rodon and Miley, and Seattle being no hit by Means and Turnbull.

Rangers manager Chris Woodward said of Kluber's no hitter "We expected some outings like that in our ballpark. Unfortunately, not against us. I can't say enough good things about him, besides when he throws a no-hitter against you. At the same time, I'm not surprised by this guy's success. I’ve watched this guy personally go through his routines and the work that he puts in. I'm not surprised."

The Rangers and Yankees finish their series today, with Domingo German starting for the Yankees, and Dane Dunning starting for Texas.
