No matter who they trade, or who they play, or the situation they are in, the Tampa Bay Rays will always find ways to win ballgames. Manuel Margot homered, Mike Brosseau hit an RBI double, and the Rays defeated the Washington Nationals 3-1 on Tuesday night.

Tyler Glasnow got the win for the Rays, allowing one run on 6 hits and one walk, striking out 11 hitters over 7 dominant innings, improving to 5-2 this season. JP Feyereisen, Ryan Thompson, and Diego Castillo pitched in relief, with Castillo earning his 10th save of the year.

Rays manager Kevin Cash said of Glasnow that "His stuff was outstanding. He commanded the ball really well. And the Nationals aren't a team that sees him all the time, so there's not a big track record with those hitters facing him. But either way, it didn't matter who Glas was facing tonight. He had his ‘A’ stuff that he was bringing to the table."

Glasnow himself said of his start that "I'm not quite sure what it was, but I felt good. I think just getting more aggressive and trying to throw the slider harder, it helped. I just think not trying to finesse anything, just really trying to keep that extension, it felt great tonight."

Margot started the scoring off right away with a leadoff solo homer in the first, making it 1-0 early on. Trea Turner then tied it for Washington with an RBI single to center field in the 3rd inning. In the 5th, an RBI double by Brosseau and an RBI single by Mike Zunino made it 3-1 Rays, which they held on to.

Walks doomed Nationals pitching in this one, as Jon Lester, Wander Suero, Sam Clay, Ryne Harper, Tanner Rainey, and Paolo Espino combined to issue 8 walks. Suero got the loss, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks in 1/3 of an inning. Lester was limited to just 3 2/3 innings, allowing one run on 4 walks and 4 hits while striking out two hitters.

Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of all the walks that "I don’t like them at all. I want those guys to come in and throw strikes. They’ve been good, and now all of a sudden we are starting to walk guys. When you walk those guys, runners are going to score, plain and simple. And we saw it tonight, again. We got to come in and throw strikes and let them put the ball in play."

The Nationals and Rays face off again tonight, with Patrick Corbin starting for Washington, and Shane McClanahan going for the Rays.
